Water Meter Upgrades

Starting in February 2025, the Town of Frederick is replacing water meters to improve water service and efficiency. This conversion will upgrade existing water meters to those with Advanced Metering Infrastructure technology, ultimately enhancing accuracy and streamlining data collection for some residents. Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) allows remote data collection to detect leaks and improve service.

Not all residents are affected by this upgrade, as only certain water meters require replacement.

What Residents Can Expect

Some residents receiving a water meter replacement will need to act based on their meter’s location:

  • Outdoor Water Meters – The outdoor water meter replacement is nearing completion and is expected to be finished by mid-March 2025. If your meter is located outside, no action is needed at this time, but please be aware that there may be a brief water service interruption during installation.
  • Indoor Water Meters– Starting in mid-March through April 2025, work will begin to replace indoor water meters in some homes, primarily in downtown Frederick. Residents will receive door hanger notifications with clear instructions on scheduling an appointment for their meter replacement. The Town’s trusted and vetted subcontractor, DB Utility Construction, will perform the work inside homes.
    • Scheduling an Appointment – It is imperative to follow the instructions on the door hangers to set up an appointment at a convenient time. Scan the QR Code or call 303.900.8264 right away to set up your appointment. Someone must be present in the home during the installation process.
    • Quick and Easy Process – The installation process is efficient and should take no longer than an hour to complete. To ensure a smooth process, homeowners are asked to clear the area around their indoor water meter for easy access. Indoor water meters are typically located near the incoming water service line and water shutoff.

Installation Process

  • A trained technician will complete the installation quickly and professionally to ensure a smooth transition to the new system.
  • DB Utility Construction is the contractor for this project and follows strict safety protocols. Their technicians will knock on each resident’s front door before replacing the water meter. Installation technicians will be wearing an official badge (pictured below).

These replacements are essential for maintaining the reliability of your water metering system and ensuring accurate billing. We appreciate the community’s support as we take this important step toward a more efficient water system.
