Pet License

Licensing Your Pets

Per Frederick Municipal Code Section 7-101, dogs and cats owned by residents of the Town of Frederick are required to be licensed yearly. Licenses are required to be updated annually in January and remain valid through December 31.

Dog and cat license fees:

  • Dog license - $5.00
  • Cat license - FREE

Please fill out the online Pet License form and remember to attach a current copy (picture) of the animal’s rabies vaccination to the Pet License Form. The Frederick Police Department will review the form and contact you for instructions on how to obtain your tag. You may also stop by the Frederick Police Department (333 Fifth St.) with cash or a check to purchase your dog license or pick up your cat's tag. Or call 720.382.5700 with a credit card.

The pet license and vaccination tag should be attached to the collar worn by the dog or cat at all times. Additionally, the Town encourages owners to microchip their pets to aid in identification.

The goal of our Community Service Unit is to reunite lost pets with their owners. Licensing or tagging your pet greatly increases the chances that your furry family member will be returned to you if it is ever lost.
