Budget News

The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) presented the 2024 Distinguished Budget Presentation Award to the Town of Frederick in April. This award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting. It highlights the Town's commitment to transparency, accountability, and effective financial management.

Receiving the budget award is a testament to the Town's commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. The rigorous process required the entity to adhere to nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation, designed to assess how well an entity's budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications platform. This stringent process ensures the credibility and significance of the award.

This acknowledgment underscores Frederick's exceptional Finance team's dedication and meticulous financial reporting.

Budget Plan

The Town's budget is a financial proposal that annually directs the provision of public services and facilities. This plan represents the Town Manager and Board’s commitment to meeting the most important citizen needs within the limits of available funds.

The money the Town collects from taxes, grants, fees, and many other sources to pay for this plan is called revenue. The money spent on salaries, materials, and equipment to provide planned services and facilities is called expenditures. Fund Balance is the difference between assets and liabilities in governmental funds.  In Colorado, budgeted expenditures cannot exceed the amount of funds the Town has available in revenues and fund balance per CRS § 29-1-103.
