Numerous recreational opportunities are available at Frederick Recreation Area, a prime destination for those who love the outdoors.
Boating
Non-motorized boating is allowed at Milavec Lake when water conditions are clear of ice. No permit is required. Please help prevent the spread of aquatic nuisance species (ANS) by practicing Clean - Drain - Dry! CPW Watercraft Cleaning
Fishing
A Colorado fishing license is required for anyone over the age of 16 years. For fishing season dates and fees, as well as purchasing your license online, visit Colorado Parks and Wildlife's webpage. All Colorado Fishing Rules and Regulations apply, as the area is patrolled by Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the Frederick Police Department.
Ice Fishing is prohibited on Milavec Reservoir, due to the presence of aerators, which cause unstable ice conditions.
Trails
Numerous trails are available in and around the Recreation Area. A 1.26 mile crusher fine trail surrounds Milavec Reservoir and an additional 1.7 miles of paved trails connected to the Reservoir, surround the Area and connect to additional regional neighborhood trails. All trails are open to hiking and biking.
Artwork
'Hooked on Frederick' is a new work of art installed on the wall of the old pumphouse. The tile mural depicts a lake scene reminiscent of a typical day of fishing at the lake. The artist is Mario Miguel Echevarria.
Wildlife
Watchable wildlife is abundant at FRA in all-seasons. Winter is particularly impressive and brings several migratory bird species including Canada and light-fronted geese, various ducks, Bald and Golden eagles, herons and more. The Reservoir Trail and fishing piers make excellent viewing locations.
Playgrounds
FRA is home to two playgrounds. The first is for youth ages 1-12 and is located near the main parking lot, behind the restroom. The second is for geared towards adults and is a sleek and modern outdoor Fitness Court® with a supporting mobile app. Download the free National Fitness Campaign app for workouts.
Frederick Skate Park
FRA is home to Frederick Stake Park, a massive wheel-sports complex located at the southwest corner of the area. More information is available here. Frederick Skate Park
Reservations are available for the Frederick Recreation Area picnic pavilions. There are two picnic pavilions located next to each other in the northeast portion of the Area. The shelters are rented as one unit, rather than separately, given their close proximity.
