We met with our three Frederick SROs for thoughts about their roles in their schools and the community. We recognize SRO Johnson's valuable work at FHS and in Frederick elementary schools - Grandview, Legacy, and Carbon Valley Academy! Likewise, SRO Davies's dedication and work to keep the students at Thunder Valley K8 safe is appreciated! And thank you, SRO Fairbanks, at Frederick High School, for serving as a mentor, educator, and law enforcement officer! Student Resource Officer Luke Johnson
Q. What is your favorite thing about your school?
A. I am an SRO at four different schools, one high school, two grade schools, and a K-8 charter academy. I like that I interact with students from all grade levels and see them grow from children into adults.
Q. What is your biggest advice for kids in your school?
A. Be cool, stay in school.
Q. What is the most important part of your job?
A. The most important role I have is ensuring the school has a safe environment for both students and staff. Another important part is to build positive relationships with students and the community.
Student Resource Officer Brad Davies
Q. What is your favorite thing about your school?
A. All the wonderful people, from the students and their families to the staff at the school. There are so many amazing people I get to interact with every day.
Q. What is your biggest advice for kids in your school?
A. Choose to surround yourself with people who inspire you to become a better person. Look for the good in every situation and find joy in little things. Find reasons to be grateful. There is always something to be thankful for. Be curious. You will enjoy school more if you are excited to learn about something. Learn to seek out and embrace challenges. Look at challenges as fun opportunities to learn. Even if you can’t overcome the challenge, you will still grow as a person. Take responsibility for your successes and mistakes. The sooner you stop blaming others, the sooner you learn to take responsibility for your life. Celebrate the successes of others. Life is not a competition. Celebrate the accomplishments of your peers.
Q. What is the most important part of your job?
A. The most important role I have is coordinating with staff to ensure the school is safe for students to learn. And although I am at Thunder Valley to keep students safe in the face of external threats, I recognize that one of the most effective ways to protect students is by being a positive role model and supporting them as they develop problem-solving and decision-making skills and learn to regulate their emotions.

Q. What is your favorite thing about your school?
A. The relationships I get to make with students and families. As an SRO, you get the opportunity to really get to know students over the years and hopefully truly make a difference.
Q. What is your biggest advice for kids in your school?
A. Get involved with the school community and find a trusted adult you can confide in.
Q. What is the most important part of your job?
A. Obviously, the safety of students and staff is my number one priority, but building relationships and trying to get to the root cause of students making poor decisions is very important.
