Dear Residents and Friends of Frederick,
In the fall election on November 2, 2010, are three initiatives (Amendment 60, 61, and Proposition 101) that will have extreme consequences on the way we provide services to citizens and residents if passed. Your careful consideration of these measures and seeking to learn more about the negative impacts on your local government providing basic services is at stake.
What if we had to choose between sweeping snow in winter or mowing the parks and bikeways in the summer? Or, how about the choice of providing high quality water to your tap vs. public safety of a well-trained and competent police force? These are but a couple of examples of the choices your elected representatives on the Town Board and each of you will have to make if these measures pass this fall. The limitations and constraints that will be placed on the ability of local government to respond to your needs, wishes and desires to make a stronger community that values quality of life and basic services will be tested if 60, 61 and 101 pass.
The economic reality is that choices will have to be considered. Our ability as a community to attract jobs will be sorely tested and the continuation of a growing and vibrant economic base will be very difficult.
The Board of Trustees and I encourage you to review the information we have in the letter below and other information that we will be providing over the coming weeks. Please also see my August message to learn more about current happenings in the town. This is your community and we have so much positive happening for the good of the community. Let's not let these measures deter us from the important elements that make for a strong and vibrant community.
– Mayor Eric E. Doering
