Eight
Frederick neighborhoods will participate in the 29th Annual National
Night Out (NNO) on Tuesday evening, August 7th. Neighborhood Watch
groups in Prairie Greens, Countryside, Summit View, Eagle Valley, Rinn Valley,
Maplewood, The Farm and Grove Townhomes will
all offer different activities with the ultimate goal of generating support and
participation for the Neighborhood Watch program as well as strengthening
neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.
NNO is also
designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness and send a message to
criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Each
neighborhood will have its own activities, ranging from cookouts to activities.
For example, Rinn Valley Ranch will have a bike rodeo, while Eagle Valley
will be holding a crime scene demonstration.
“It’s
a wonderful event that neighborhoods enjoy being involved in,” said Frederick
Chief of Police Gary Barbour. “National Night Out is intended to bring
neighbors together and show them how to make their neighborhoods safer in
collaboration with the police.”
