A special election will be held on Tuesday June 26, 2018. It will be a mail ballot election with a question referred to the voters by the Board of Trustees regarding the sale of the town-owned electric utility to United Power, Inc. The election is required by Colorado State Statute 31-15-713 as the next step in the process of selling a municipal utility.The ballot question will appear as follows:“SHALL THE TOWN OF FREDERICK BE PERMITTED TO SELL THE ELECTRIC LIGHT WORKS UTILITY TO UNITED POWER, INC. FOR A LUMP SUM PAYMENT OF EIGHTEEN MILLION DOLLARS ($18,000,000), AND WITH THE SALE TO CLOSE ON OR BEFORE JULY 1, 2019, WITH SUCH OTHER TERMS AND CONSIDERATIONS AS MAY BE AGREED TO BETWEEN THE TWO PARTIES?________ YES __________ NO”Residents can expect to begin receiving their ballots at the beginning of June and can return them through the mail until June 18th or bring them into Town Hall (401 Locust St.) Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Town Hall will be open on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Residents who haven’t mailed their ballots by June 18th are encouraged to bring their ballots into Town Hall or to the Frederick Post Office (411 Oak St.) to ensure their ballot is received by Election Day.New Colorado residents, or residents who have changed their address within the state, are encouraged to register to vote or change their address at www.govotecolorado.com. Voter registration is also available at Frederick’s Town Hall (401 Locust St.), the Weld County Clerk’s office, any motor vehicle office or drivers’ license office within Colorado.
