Are you interested in contributing to how your community looks and feels? The Parks, Open Space, and Trails Commission (POST) and Planning Commission each have a vacancy to be filled. So, what does each commission do?The POST Commission is comprised of seven members appointed by the Board of Trustees as well as a Trustee Liaison. The commission advises the Board of Trustees on a number of topics. First, they advise on all matters relating to acquisition, care, use, management, control and planning of all town-owned parks and open space. They also advise the Trustees regarding the preparation and maintenance of a long-range parks and open space acquisition, care and maintenance plan. Finally, the commission participates in the budgeting process by making recommendations to the Board of Trustees regarding parks, open space and trails-related budget items. The POST Commission meets at 7:00 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month at Town Hall. The Planning Commission is comprised of five regular members and two alternate members appointed by the Board of Trustees. The commission reviews annexations, zoning amendments, subdivision plats and other planning actions, and makes recommendations to the Board of Trustees. The commission is also involved in revising and updating the Town Comprehensive Plan and the Land Use Code. The vacancy on this commission is an alternate member. Alternate members receive all meeting materials and attend all meetings, participating in the discussion of all matters presented to the commission. Alternate members only vote if a regular member is absent from the meeting. The commission meets at 6:30 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of each month, as needed, at Town Hall.
Anyone interested in serving on either of these Commissions is required to attend two meetings of the commission and complete an application and questionnaire before being considered for appointment by the Board of Trustees. You must be a resident of the Town of Frederick to serve on a commission. Questions? Feel free to call/email Jennifer Simmons at 720.382.5651.
