The Frederick Police Department was recently named a National Award Winner by the National Association of Town Watch for its outstanding participation in the 34th Annual National Night Out this year. Frederick was one of 31 towns with a population between 5,000 and 15,000 across the United States to receive this honor, and the only Colorado winner in that population bracket.Frederick has a very active Neighborhood Watch group and eight neighborhoods hosted National Night Out celebrations for their neighborhoods in 2017. Officers worked their way around Frederick to participate in each celebration throughout the evening. It was the ninth year for Frederick to participate in the national program which is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.“We strive to work hard to build a partnership within our Neighborhood Watch program here in Frederick,” said Frederick Police Chief Todd Norris. “This award is a reflection of all the hard work and commitment between citizens and police officers working together in the community.” The 34th Annual National Night Out campaign involved 38.6 million neighbors across 16,377 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide.
